Visiting Santa 2010

We visited Santa last night. Jake and Ella did really good; neither one of them cried. Ella might have been a little scared because she wouldn't smile for a picture.

Jake asked Santa for a spiderman web shooting arm, which we already have bought as a Santa gift, and Ella asked for scissors! All this time she has been saying she wanted a baby doll from Santa and then we get there and she asks for scissors. Jake gets to use kid scissors at home, but we haven't let Ella use scissors yet. I guess she really wants her turn at scissor time!

Jake's First Run in with the Law

Wednesday, November 10, 2010, we stopped at Wal-Mart on our way home from work and daycare to pick-up a gallon of milk.  Literally all we got was milk.  When we reached the check out stand Jake started going crazy for gum.  He begged for gum and I kept saying no.  You see Jake and Ella can chew gum at Nana's house or at Granny's house, but not at my house or in my car.  Gum ends up in weird places and I don't want to deal with it.  They will have to be 13 years old before they can have gum at home!  Just kidding, but really it will be a while before we have gum at our house.

Anyway, I put the milk on the counter to checkout and I turned to do my mommy check on all the kids and there was Jake sticking a pack of gum in his pocket!  I let out a big  "Jacob Burrell!"  The police officer standing there did not approve of Jake's actions so he proceeded to lecture Jake about not taking things that aren't his.  And I had to explain that we have to pay for things at the store.

When we got home I proceeded to tell Mike about Jake's run in with the law.  Jake got really upset when he was talking to Mike about it.  When Jake and I walked away from Mike, he looked at me and said "Mom....why did you have to tell him all that?"

The next morning I told Jake we were going back to the store to pick-up a few things and he said "don't worry mom...I won't take anything today!"  I said "good" and he sat there and thought for a while and then replied,  "well maybe I just won't wear pants with pockets!"

It looks like he learned his lesson!

Ella with Granny and Popa Phil

Granny and Popa Phil came to one of Jake's soccer games this Fall.  We were able to get some cute pictures of Ella, Ilene and Phil cheering on Jake.

Bowling with Nana and Popa

This summer Nana and Popa came up and took us all bowling.  This was Ella's first time to bowl.  We had a lot of fun.

Jake Plays Blastball

In the Summer of 2010, Jacob played his first organized sport "Blastball"!  Blastball is similar to t-ball, but there is only one base and the players do not try to throw each other out at base.  All the team gets in the field and if a player catches the ball they hold it up and yell "BLAST".  This is for 3-year-olds and it is suppose to teach them the basics of baseball.  Jake's team was named the Super Heros...by Jake.  During the first practice, the coach asked if anyone had a name for the team and Jake spoke up and said Super Heros and that was that!

Jake did really well at Blastball.  He got better at hitting the ball and fielding.

Keep you eye on the ball.....

Jake Accepts Soccer Medal

We went to Braum's last night to Jake's Soccer Awards Banquet!  Actually it was just dinner and the coach handed out their medals for participating in Soccer this season.  All the kids get a medal, but this was his first awards ceremony so we had to capture it on video.

Jake played 4-year-old soccer this Fall through the YMCA and was on a team called the Knights.  He did pretty good for his first season. His only goal of the season was during the first game.

Way to go Jakey!!!!

Halloween

Since I am trying to update this blog with a bunch of past information, I am included pictures for the last four years of Halloween.

Halloween 2010-
Jake wanted to be a white ghost.  Mike tried to talk him into being everything else in the store besides a white ghost, but that is what he was determined to be.  Ella was Yoda this year...once again that was a Mike decision.  He has been wanting one of the babies to be Yoda since Jake's first Halloween, so since this is the last Halloween we can probably make Ella be what we want her to be...she was Yoda.  We did put red cheeks on her and bows on her Yoda ears...we tried to make it girly!

Halloween 2009
Jake was Batman and Ella was a girly Pig!

Halloween 2008
Jake was a Skeleton and Ella Pumpkin.  Ella was only 2 months old. We do not have a photo of Ella from this Halloween.

Halloween 2007
Jake did not trick or treat in 2007, but we did let him dress up to hand out candy.  He was a Dragon!

The Mike and Katy Story

The story below was in mine and Mike's wedding program and I thought it would be a fun addition to our blog!  Mike is saying I shouldn't add this to the blog, but when have I ever listened to him?!!!

Love History of Mike and Katy

Mike and Katy began dating while they both attended Kingston High School.  It all started when Katy decided she needed a date for the 1997 prom.  After talking with friends it was determined that Mike Smith would be the perfect date.  Mike and Katy ended up going to prom together and dating for 8 months.  At the time Mike was a senior and Katy was a sophomore.  When Mike graduated in 1997, he moved to Kansas to attend college, therefore ending their relationship.  Katy went on to graduate from Kingston High School in 1999 and then continued her education by attending Oklahoma State University, to the dismay of her Sooner born family.  During this time Mike had returned to Oklahoma eventually continuing his education at the University of Oklahoma.  Mike and Katy would see each other at various times in Kingston, always flirting but never dating.  After 5 years apart, Mike finally convinced Katy to go on a date with him.  After their second first date it was all over.  The couple has now been dating for over two and a half years. On January 12, 2004,  Mike proposed to Katy on the canal in downtown Oklahoma City and they were married August 14, 2004.

Teamwork- July 2010

Jake and Ella always sign this song about "teamwork".  It is from Wonder Pets on Nick Jr.  It says..."What's gonna work, Teamwork!"

Anyway, we got some cute photos of their teamwork over the fourth of July weekend.  This is at Grandpa Burrell and Grandma Joyce's house.

Ella Is Talking

Ella has really started talking...she is two-years-old now and will repeat anything you tell her to say.  She is even putting together words to make sentences.  Before we know, we will not be able to get her to stop talking.

She says to many words to record all of them, but here are my favorite things Ella says:

  • Pee-A-Boo!  She leaves off the K.
  • Jake hit me (even when he didn't)
  • When she gets hurt, she will tell the floor or wall or whatever hurt her "No-No!"
  • If you ask her what shoes she wants to wear, she will say "My Princess Shoes!" These are silver mary jane shoes.
  • Piderman she leaves the S off of spiderman.  She also makes the web shooting noise and puts her arm out like she is shooting a web at you.
  • She is really good at saying thank you and knows when to say it.
  • And she just started saying Bless You when you sneeze, even though it sounds like S You
  • And the best is when she says I Love You...you have to tell her to say it...but it melts your heart.

Jake's Recent Sayings

Jake is now 4-years-old and is becoming smarter every day. He says the funniest things all the time.  Here are some of his more recent sayings.

  • When asking if he could have a dog, I told him he would have to take the dog outside to go to the bathroom every day.  I said are you going to do that...he thought for a minute and said, "Well I guess if he doesn't want to go to use the potty!"
  • When he was siting on our breakfast counter, I told him he better get down because if the counter broke, we would both be in trouble.  He replied "you mean like if Caca (aunt Chrisit) sat on here an broke it, then her moma would have to spank her ass?"

  • When he got his windpants caught on the pool table, he was asking for help getting unstuck.  He kept saying I am stuck, I am stuck...we were all laughing and he put his hands on his hips and said..."yeah this is real funny....I am stuck!"

Starting Our Blog

I have decided to start a blog for the Smith Family!  We are not very good memory book keepers and we thought this would be a good way to track or record some of the memories we make together.

The first few posts will probably be things that I have been thinking I need to record such as things the kids say or do or even big events we should have recorded from our past.  Hopefully this blog can redeem our slacking for the last 4 years of our lives.
